25. YANGPYEONG (2018 – France, Jipyeong)

This memorial located in Jipyong is dedicated to the French soldiers who died in the Battle of Jipyong-ni. Known as “the Gettysburg of the Korean War”, this battle and the Third Battle of Wonju represents the furthest point of the Chinese advance. It has also been cited as one of the greatest regimental defense actions in military history.

Out of the 4,500 U.N. Forces, 51 were killed, 250 were wounded, and 42 were missing. Many of these were French soldiers.
