9. INCHEON (2018 – Incheon Region Victory Columbia)
This memorial located on top of a hill overlooking the city of Incheon is dedicated to the Incheon Region Victory. The Incheon Landing resulted in a decisive victory and strategic reversal in favor of the United Nations Command.
On September 15, 1950, U.S. General Douglas MacArthur led some 75,000 soldiers and 261 naval vessels to land on the Incheon shore. The operation led to the recapture of the South Korean capital of Seoul two weeks later.
The U.N. casualties during the Incheon landings and subsequent battle to reclaim Seoul were high, with 566 killed and 2,713 wounded. However, the North Korean Army had more than 35,000 killed or captured.
