20. THAILAND
The Kingdom of Thailand participated in the Korean War from June of 1950 to June of 1972. It was the first to assist Korea among Asian countries, responding their willingness to participate in the war just five days after the war broke out. King Bhumibol Adulyadej sent one infantry battalion, seven frigates, one transport vessel, and one transport aircraft formation.
In total, Thailand deployed 6,326 soldiers and suffered 1,273 casualties. According to the statistics provided by the South Korean government, there were 129 soldiers killed in action, 1,139 wounded in action, and 5 missing in action.
The Korean War Memorial in Thailand is located in the outskirts of Bangkok City. The memorial displays the names 136 soldiers—etched on the Memorial Wall—to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Thai force was comparatively small but outstandingly fierce in battle that it earned the moniker “Little Tiger.”

Thailand was my country #20. I traveled to Bangkok from April 7, 2017 to April 11, 2017.
