2. COLOMBIA (Bogota)

The Republic of Colombia participated in the Korean War from June 1951 to October 1955. Colombia was the only country in Latin America that dispatched soldiers to Korea. President Laureano Gómez sent one infantry battalion and a frigate ship.

In total, Colombia deployed 5,100 soldiers and suffered 639 casualties. According to the statistics provided by the South Korean government, there were 163 killed in action, 448 wounded in action, and 28 prisoners of war.

There are two Korean War Memorials in Bogota: one inside the War Academy and one inside the Ministry of Defense. Some of the major battles fought by the Colombians took place in Kumsong and Old Baldy.
