6. SWEDEN

The Kingdom of Sweden participated in the Korean War from September 1950 to April 1957. Sweden provided the Swedish Red Cross Field Hospital during the war (1950-53) and participated in the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission, following the ceasefire on July 27, 1953.

Sweden provided 600 beds by the end of the war, staffed by 174 Swedish doctors and nurses at any one time. Overall,1,124 Swedish men and women served in the Swedish hospital, and they treated 19,100 United Nations personnel and 2,400 Korean personnel.

The memorial in Stockholm is called Restare (meaning “to rest” in Latin), a monument dedicated to all civilian and military veterans who have taken part in missions abroad.
