15. TURKEY (Ankara)
The Republic of Turkey participated in the Korean War from September 1950 to September 1953. It was one of the few countries to provide brigade-level units. President Celâl Bayar sent one infantry brigade.
In total, Turkey deployed 21,212 soldiers and suffered 3,216 casualties. According to the statistics provided by the South Korean government, there were 741 killed in action, 2,068 wounded in action, 163 missing in action, and 244 prisoners of war.
The memorial in Ankara is located inside the Turkish-Korean Friendship Park. The memorial lists the names of all Turkish soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice fighting in Korea. They were known to be the fiercest fighters in the war.
